Backyard Landscaping And My Experiences As A Homeowner

Never in a million years did I think I would be forced to learn alot about backyard landscaping. One thing that is for certain is that it wasn't entirely my idea. For starters, my wife watches HGTV every day like clockwork. Sometimes I think that she can't watch enough of it. I don't exactly find it as entertaining as her but it is growing on me. If I sit and pay attention to it I always find many good ideas for improving my landscape around the yard. I must admit that they have helped me in sprucing-up my backyard and deck area (no pun intended for spruce trees). I must admit that the rear of my home looks excellent which is a result of the helpful landscaping hints I've been exposed to.

Privacy and beauty are very important things to me, which left me in great need of some backyard landscaping ideas. If the yard didn't end up looking like it was professionally done, my wife would be upset with me. First thing, I needed to plant a few trees and put in some rolling hills that gave us the necessary privacy. To accomplish this I had a landscaper come over and put together an estimate on small hills and broad pine trees. An idea I had was to put in some subtle hills along the sides of the backyard, then plant good sized trees in between them to finish it off. I instructed the landscaper to add the hill features, but I wanted to handle digging the holes and planting the trees by myself. My thought was that I could purchase the pine trees from a nursery, and they would deliver them for free as long as the holes were already dug. They just pulled up and dropped them right into the holes for me. It was definitely worth it if you ask me.

Now we glance at the backyard without seeing neighbors moving around next-door. The hills and pine trees provide terrific privacy and make us feel more secure. This was not, however, the full extent of our backyard landscaping. At the same time as this project my wife added a few flower beds and used cedar mulch to differentiate the lawn from the beds. The mulch also helps fertilize the flowers and keep the soil underneath in an ideal growing condition.

My experience is that you really can do any backyard landscaping project yourself if you plan and take your time. Don't feel like you have to go about it alone though. You can actually find plenty of great tips and other ideas from HGTV, or you can browse around the internet to learn all you need to know online.
