Helpful Landscaping Ideas

In most upscale neighborhoods people really take pride in their yards using a variety of landscaping ideas to bring that special theme from their head to their backyard. Pretty much every neighborhood has atleast one homeowner who has alot of good ideas for their landscaping. You always wonder how they thought of a certain layout, or where they found the right bench for their yard. A good way to get inspiration is to talk to these people. They always like to share their ideas with others, especially since they put so much hard work into their landscape.

I remember once working in our backyard on a new flower garden for a previously barren area. I was feverishly trying to relocate some sod to fix things when our resident expert landscaper came over to see what I was doing. I mentioned that I was attempting to create a rock garden with some annuals, as the area was in need of some vivid color. His suggestion was to install a small pond and a water fountain which is kinda more involved than I wanted. This landscaping idea sounded intriguing though, and he told me that many landscape magazines feature ideas for a variety of situations including water. I promptly found some that explained in detail how to solve my problem in a more creative manner.

After some research using magazines on landscaping topics, I had many good ideas for other areas of my backyard as well. One of these included a small water feature, incorporating my existing water spigot into this feature. We went back and forth on the feasibility but soon decided to give it a go. We really wanted our landscaping to look out of the ordinary and thought that water would give us the added dimension to make it just right.

We purchased all the necessary supplies that were mentioned in the magazine and began working on the project. First we had to dig a little hold to house the water feature, while lining it with heavy duty plastic. This would create a small pond. Next we arranged quite a few large rocks around the top so the water would flow down over them and into the new pond. The last thing we added were some spot lights to give a reflection off the water at nite. The finished product was something we were proud of. For the first time our landscaping ideas really gave us the look we were aiming for in our backyard.
